New pending patent applications are published by the USPTO on Thursdays. Both of today's Spotlight Applications concern aspects of distributed ledgers (blockchains, smart contracts) and rights management broadly construed. Both of today applications are assigned to Combined Conditional Access Development and Support, LLC. The first application discloses techniques for distributed ledger-based digital content tracing. The second application discloses techniques for distributed ledger-based digital content piracy deterrence.
20200226267, "Distributed ledger-based digital content tracing," assigned to Combined Conditional Access Development and Support, LLC.
Abstract
Methods and systems for distributed ledger-based digital content distribution chain tracing may comprise receiving an indication of a content asset and an indication of a first user associated with the content asset. A first distributed ledger record may be stored and/or created on a distributed ledger comprising the indication of the content asset and the indication of the first user. A second distributed ledger record may be stored on and/or created on the distributed ledger comprising an indication of a second user associated with the content asset. A version of the content asset may be generated comprising one or more frames having a digital marker. The digital marker may comprise an indication of the first user. At least one of the first distributed ledger record or the second distributed ledger record may be determined based on the digital marker as part of tracking or tracing the content asset.
20200226233, "Distributed ledger-based digital content piracy deterrence" assigned to Combined Conditional Access Development and Support, LLC.
Abstract
Methods and systems for distributed ledger-based digital content piracy deterrence may comprise receiving an indication of a content asset. An indication of a unique identifier associated with a user device may be received. A version of the content asset comprising a digital maker may to be sent to the user device. The digital marker may comprise an indication of the unique identifier of the user device. A distributed ledger record entry comprising an indication of the content asset and the unique identifier of the user device may be caused to be stored on a distributed ledger. The distributed ledger may comprise other record entries indicating other content assets and other unique identifiers associated with other user devices.
