New patents are issued by the USPTO on Tuesdays. Both of today's Spotlight Patents concern aspects of digital watermarking. Assigned ti IBM, the first patent addresses techniques for integrity verification of an audio-visual data stream. Assigned to The Nielsen Company, the second patent addresses techniques for performing audio watermarking and watermark detection and extraction
10,136,098, "Integrity verification of an audio-visual data stream," assigned to IBM.
Methods and systems are provided for integrity verification of an audio-visual data stream. The method includes inserting a watermark into a frame of the visual data stream or into an audio window of a corresponding audio data stream, where the watermark includes: a hash code of the previous frame of the visual data stream and a hash code of the audio window of the audio data stream, and where the audio window corresponds in time to the previous frame of the visual data stream.
10,134,408, "Methods and apparatus to perform audio watermarking and watermark detection and extraction," assigned to The Nielsen Company.
Methods and apparatus to audio watermarking and watermark detection and extracted are described herein. According to an example method, an identifier is encoded in media content when a different identifier has been previously encoded. According to another example method, messages decoded from media content are validated to provide improved decoding accuracy. In another example method, decoded symbols are stored in memory and synchronization symbols are located to detect a message encoded in media content.
