New patents are issued by the PTO on Tuesdays. Both of today's Spotlight Patents concern aspects of digital fingerprinting. Assigned to Geenee UG (DE), the first patent addresses techniques for image-feature-based recognition. Assigned to BofA, the second patent addresses techniques for device registration using device fingerprints.
9,122,706, "Systems and methods for image-feature-based recognition," assigned to Geenee UG (DE).
Abstract
Methods and systems are described herein that allow a user to capture a single image snapshot from video, print, or the world around him or her, and obtain additional information relating to the media itself or items of interest displayed in the snapshot. A fingerprint of the snapshot is used as a query and transmitted to the server. Image Feature-Based Recognition, as described herein, uses a feature index to identify a smaller set of candidate matches from a larger database of images based on the fingerprint. Novel methods and systems using a distance metric and a radical hash table design exploit probabilistic effects and allow distinct image features to be preferred over redundant ones, allowing only the more distinctive data points to remain resident within the index, yielding a lean index that can be quickly used in the identification process.9,124,583, "Device registration using device fingerprint," assigned to Bank of America.
Abstract
Embodiments of the invention are directed to apparatuses, methods and computer program products for registering a device. An exemplary apparatus is configured to: determine a device accesses an application; determine whether the device is a trusted device; in response to determining the device is not a trusted device, forward an approval request; and in response to receiving approval, register the device based on a device fingerprint associated with the device.
