On Tuesdays the USPTO issues new patents. Digital watermarking continues to be a relatively "hot topic" for US issued patents (and for published patent applications).Assigned to Canon (JP), the first of today's Spotlight Patents concerns techniques for image processing using digital watermarks. Assigned, to FujiFilm, the second patent concerns a digital watermarking apparatus and storage medium.
Abstract
In an embedding technique of an invisible or visible digital watermark information, it is a main object to provide a technique which can reconstruct an original image and avoid an increase of the whole image data due to holding of key information or the like. To accomplish this object, an image processing apparatus of the invention is constructed by, an input unit for inputting image data showing an original image, a compressing unit for compressing at least a part of the image data, and an embedding unit for embedding compression data obtained by the compressing unit into the image data so that it is difficult to be identified by the human eyes by converting a part of the image data.

Abstract
A digital watermarking apparatus for embedding a data in an index color image data, wherein the data is configured by an arrangement of a first data and a second data, and the apparatus has: an allocating unit for allocating the data to values of positions of a color lookup table included in the index color image data; and an adjusting unit for adjusting a value of the color lookup table to which the first data is allocated, to an odd number, and adjusting a value of the color lookup table to which the second data is allocated, to an even number.
