Video games remain one of the most popular consumer software categories, but increasingly consumers have been downloading their games from web sites rather than buying games at stores. Game publishers need to control how their software is distributed online to prevent rampant piracy....
Macrovision already provides copy protection schemes for games with its SafeDisc and Flex products. The Trymedia acquisition will enable Macrovision to provide digital rights management (DRM) technology for different delivery methods through a single platform.
“Adding ActiveMARK increases our reach and adds some capabilities that are more geared to the game industry,” said Steve Weinstein, executive vice president of Macrovision’s entertainment division. “We’ll be able to add a pure system for the game industry.”
