On Thursdays the USPTO publishes new pending patent applications. Today's Spotlight Applications concern digital watermarking and digital fingerprinting. Assigned to Rovi, the first application discloses techniques for tunable distribution of content. Assigned to Bach Technology (NO), the second application discloses techniques for generating a collection profile and for communicating based on the collection profile.
20120297032, "Method and system for tunable distribution of content," assigned to Rovi Technologies Corporation.
A method and system for tunable distribution of content are disclosed. Preferably, the content comprises digital rights and/or watermark information. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method comprises receiving a request from a client. One or more content files related to the request and a user profile of a user are determined. One or more seeders are assigned to start the delivery of the one or more content files. The client is allowed to obtain a plurality of pieces of the one or more content files from the one or more seeders. At least one piece of the plurality of pieces of the one or more content files contains digital rights and/or watermark information.
20120296908,"Apparatus and method for generating a collection profile and for communicating based on the collection profile," assigned to Bach Technology AS (NO).
An apparatus for generating a collection profile of a collection of different media data items has a feature extractor for extracting at least two different features describing a content of a media data item for a plurality of media data items of the collection, and a profile creator for creating the collection profile by combining the extracted features or weighted extracted features so that the collection profile represents a quantitative fingerprint of a content of the media data collection. This collection profile or music DNA can be used for transmitting information, which is based on this collection profile, to the entity itself or to a remote entity.
